As always, the Courtisane festival organises a competition of recent films and videos. On Sunday April 3 at 22:00, the jury will announce the Belgian and international winners. Directly afterwards the winning films will be shown again. Welcome!
JURY
Marina Kozul (HR, 1978) studied philosophy, Croatian language and literature at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Zagreb. Since 2004 she is a member of the Croatian non-profit organization, 25 FPS Association for Audio-Visual Research in Zagreb, whose main project is 25 FPS – International Experimental Film and Video Festival, but also curating programmes for art cinemas in Zagreb and other Croatian cities, as well as promoting Croatian experimental film, video and animation within European and international film and media events. She is one of the festivals’ programmers and co-editor of the Association’s branch for book publishing.
Vincent Meessen (BE/US, 1971) is a visual artist. His “experiential documents” both adapt and corrupt documentary style and center around the idea of disputed spaces. His work has been presented at many international festivals and institutions including KW (Berlin), Museo Reina Sofia (Madrid), IFFR, Cinéma du Réel (Paris) and Internationale Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen where he won the Grand Prize of the City of Oberhausen in 2006 after winning also the competition of the Courtisane Festival the same year. He regularly curates film programmes and exhibitions in Belgium as well as abroad, and together with the collective Potential Estate he has worked on projects for the Brussels Biennial, M HKA (Antwerp) and Argos (Brussels).
Adam Pugh (UK, 1977) is an independent curator and writer based in Norwich, UK. Until recently he directed AURORA, an annual festival which focused on artists’ moving image. He has since worked on projects for Barbican and LUX (London), amongst others. Adam has contributed articles to Vertigo, Schnitt, AP Engine and other publications, and to the annual AURORA publication, which he edited alongside its DVD edition. He has also delivered talks, curated programmes and served on international juries for various festivals worldwide.
Jury members Marina Kozul and Adam Pugh as well as Barcelona-based curator Alexandra Laudo will be visiting Courtisane in the frame of the international visitors programme organised by BAM, Institute for visual and audiovisual media.
