Ali au pays des merveilles
Djouhra Abouda, Alain Bonnamy, 1976, FR, HD, 59'

A film about time and wear, about the mockery and melancholy of history. The filmmakers show the political connection between colonisation and emigration. It is not a militant film. It is something else: a gaze that turns away from everyday life and misery and gives back a dimension of fantasy to the exploitation of which migrant workers are the victims. The given and cut out reality is even stronger, more surprising than fiction — it is also more violent than the political discourse. For Djouhra, “if cinema is to be reduced to political discourse, it is better to distribute pamphlets.” (Tahar Ben, 1977)
