Inspired by the Divine Comedy, Godard makes a film in three parts: Hell, Purgatory, Paradise. Like many of Godard's later films, this one also gives an image of the state of the world. Israel-Palestine is central. But the recordings take place in a war-ravaged Sarajevo.
