The Wave
Sarah Vanagt, Katrien Vermeire, 2012, BE, DCP, 20'

In The Wave we are faced with poignant images of the exhumation of a mass grave from the Spanish Civil War (1936 – 1939). In 2011 the filmmaker Sarah Vanagt and photographer Katrien Vermeire positioned a camera on the spot where nine victims were exhumed, who had been executed in June 1939 under general Franco’s regime. By means of a very precise time lapse series of photos it is possible to see in close-up how the nine victims’ bodies were exhumed, inch by inch.
